Flintvalley LLC was officially formed in January 2008. In concept (and in practice), however, the company has existed since 2005. It was in 2005 that Brad - one of the owners of Flintvalley - registered his first domain name -- AmazTechSolutions.com ("Amazing Technology Solutions"). There were big plans for the domain, but none of them ever materialized (and the domain is no longer registered).
After the initial domain registration, several more domains were registered. Again, there were plans and a vision of building an Internet empire. The fatal flaw in the vision was the belief that the empire and fortune could be quickly attained. The search for web site generators, blog generators, Adsense killers, and so on was the primary approach. There was no shortage of "success stories" to be found and products claiming to make people $10K or more a month. As the list of registered domains grew past 70 and the monthly revenue stagnated below $100, it became quite clear that the current approach just wasn't working.
In the fall of 2007 it was obvious that a change in approach was necessary. Brad read a free CashTactics.net report that talked about the power of "mashups" and how using tools like Amazon Web Services could quickly generate massive amounts of revenue. It would have been easy to read the article and think of it as another get-rich-quick scheme, but instead the article struck a chord in Brad's mind about how to build a REAL business.
In December of 2007 the decision was made to form a new company. The name of the company would be Flintvalley, LLC. The name was chosen to be intentially vague. This makes it easier for the business of the company to evolve without appearing to diverge from its initial purpose.
The owners of Flintvalley developed an initial mission statement:
Develop and run a portfolio of web sites that adds value to consumers and generates revenue for Flintvalley, LLC.
The key part of the mission statement is adds value to consumers. This is the
part that was missing for the previous two years. There was no focus on adding value to the
consumer, only focus on making money. The realization that adding value to consumers is the best
way to generate revenue was the primary reason that Flintvalley was created.
